Which software to USE?
While Adobe photoshop is a decent software to edit photos, Adobe LIGHTROOM is the solid way to go when it comes to post processing of your photos.

When to use Photoshop: Photoshop specializes in greater control to achieve more expansive edits that will help you make a few images look flawless

Consider CROPPING your image
Cropping with LIGHTROOM allows you to choose different cropping guidelines by pressing O or shift+O to get different variant of these guidelines.

On photoshop or lightroom, make sure to use perspective CROP to adjust the alignment for better photos.

Adjusting WHITE balance
Adjusting the white balance can RECREATE the real colour during the shot.
However, you can also play with the colours to create a DESIRED mood.
Highlight the main subject to align with your purpose of the shot
To add more VALUE to the main subject of your SHOT, highlighting the latter provides a FLATTERING purpose on what you want to shot.

Take a BREAK
It is IMPORTANT to take a break and come back to your editing. Go grab a coffee, get some FRESH air or do something to DISTRACT yourself. When you come back, you will see things you will not be able to see when you were initially editing. It is normal when you work on something for hours, you tend to OVERDO.
