6 IMPORTANT tips for better COMPOSITION

Get your POSITION right

We all know the basic human eye level pictures. However this is not the most EXCITING position when you want to CAPTURE certain emotion of the scene.

Here are 6 different positions you may try:

- Climb Up High

- Water level or underwater (waterproof camera)

- Hold Your Camera Up High

- Lie Down

- Use Reflections (mirror)

- Shoot From Under (look up)

Use your PHONE

Phone picture might not give your the BEST picture in term of resolution compare to a DSLR, however taking picture with your phone will allow you to get the composition QUICKER and find the proper point of view.

Once you have found the angle of shot and composition, use your DSLR to capture the scene.

BLUR your eyes

Blurring our eyes allow us to CHOOSE our focus on important element and ADJUST accordingly to get a GOOD shot. It can also define our PURPOSE of taking the picture.

Funny thing is when you UNFOCUS your eyes, it is like having a BOKEH effect on a blink of an eye.

Add PURPOSE in your COMPOSITION

To put simply, a purpose in a composition is how the elements of a photo are arranged so that the picture is telling you a STORY and it feels NATURAL. A composition can me made up of many different elements, or only a few. It's how the ARTIST puts those things within a frame that help a photograph become INTERESTING to the viewer.

Keep it SIMPLE

Sometime a composition does not need to have too many different elements. Only few elements can create an IMPACTFUL photograph.

PRACTICE

Composition is one of the most DIFFICULT things to learn in photography. If you think about it, composition is a very PERSONAL relationship between the PHOTOGRAPHER and the SUBJECT. Only time and PRACTICE will help the photographer acknowledge his/her PROCESS of defining a composition and style.
